About Me
Meet Théma
My name is Théma Angol, I was born and raised in Guadeloupe, a French overseas territory in the Southern Caribbean. Growing up, I spoke Caribbean English at home and French at school. At the age of sixteen, I moved to the United States with my parents and siblings. Moving to the U.S. was a significant adjustment.
Perhaps the most difficult was the language barrier. I was accustomed to learning in a French Academic environment, now everything was in English, and it was quite challenging. I found English vocabulary to be quite difficult. When reading English textbooks, I would look up the definition of a word to make sense of it in the context. When the professor used words such as credits, syllabus, multiple-choice test, I was completely confused about what he meant. I felt overwhelmed, confused, and stressed.

My English teacher in sixième (6th grade) was one of my greatest inspirations. She was always dressed nice and articulated her words well. I often thought that I wanted to be like this teacher when I grow up. While I enjoy reading storybooks reading in French feels far more natural than reading in English. I’ve often been told that I explains things in a way that helps people understand it better. And have a lot of empathy and patience.
Despite the fact that my educational background is in accounting/Business management, speaking has always come naturally. I did not realize I was going to be a teacher until later. Sometimes when teaching, I can hear my father’s voice – You could say that I inherited my father’s oratory skills (preacher).
Though teaching can be demanding it feels RIGHT! I hold a Bachelor or Science in Accounting from Albright College in Pennsylvania, a Master’s in Business Management from Eastern University in Pennsylvania, and a TEFL Certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).
